Book stores

If you really look, you'll find loads of independent bookstores in San Francisco. “Dog Eared Books”, located in the Mission, is one of these places where getting lost among the randomly piled up books is a good thing. A happy mess is everywhere you turn making it seem like you've stumbled upon a nugget, in the first book or author you find, in a previously unknown edition. This bookstore is also where you can regularly attend readings and meet writers.

What is more orderly, being better known and more often visited, is “City Lights Books Store” founded by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. It remains no less an undisputed location for finding everything that has anything to do with the Beat Generation. As a mythic place whose publication begins with the first edition of Howl by Allen Ginsberg, this independent bookstore has lost none of its dissenting and militant aspects.
