We stop for a drink in Central City, an old mining town where Kerouac and his Denver friends went on a "great mountain expedition". In On the Road, Sal Paradise and the entire group spent an entire night scouring all the bars in town: a night ending badly.
While in town, Kerouac describes pretty precisely this place in a very touristy manner for the time. These days, Central City is still very popular, not only for its opera, but for the casino gambling found everywhere downtown.
