Day One, "Kerouac Festival". Leti and I go to Naropa where a marathon reading of On the Road, in its entirety, is being organized. The ambiance is relaxed as we quietly hang out in the sunshine on the lawn of the campus... The participants in the reading follow one another at the microphone, and every hour there is a team of "fast readers" working at a ranting speed in relay, 15 minutes at a time.
While three musicians provide the tone, all-out good jazz à la Ornet Coleman, the next readers re-read their part of the book before taking the microphone. I am enjoying the success of this picturesque afternoon and the number of Jack afficionados present here...
