Kerouac and the Beats used to like public readings in particular. As a matter of fact, this is how Jack envisioned the reading of his works. Nobody keeps count any more of the number of readings done by Ginsberg in parks, there before a conquered audience. Is this a live approach to literature -- theatre essentially -- that could be related to the origins of "slam"...?!

Very near "Beat Book Shop", I am surprised by the number of participants who have come to spout their prose at the "Laughing Goat", a cafe with an atmosphere reminiscent of the philosopher cafés of Paris...
